Scott Katz Westfield Ward 1

Earlier this week I took part in a Facebook live where we demonstrated our sewer camera truck. This allows the Town to ensure that stormwater infrastructure is clear which helps to maximize drainage capacity. This is one of many initiatives the Town is undertaking towards improving our stormwater management plans and climate resiliency.  You can watch the video here.

The Memorial pool opens this Saturday, June 3rd.  The weather looks fantastic!

Here are some upcoming events of note:

The Town will be offering FREE SAPLINGS AT THE CONSERVATION CENTER

The Town is happy to offer the remaining sapling trees that were not claimed on Brightwood Park Day for residents visiting the Conservation Center this weekend, free of charge. Public Works has 64 White Oaks and 16 Red Maples available on a first-come, first-served basis on Saturday from 9:00 - 3:00 (limit two per household).

Free Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event this Saturday, June 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Kean University parking lot, 1000 Morris Avenue in Union Township --  rain or shine. Any Union County resident may participate, regardless of their home town. Proof of residency is required.

Join us for our annual Pride Month celebration! The Pride flag raising will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, on the Town Hall lawn, followed by a walk to Quimby Street where there will be refreshments and music. The rain date will be on Thursday, June 8.

Tour de Westfield will be returning on Sunday, June 11th.  Come ride with the community in Westfield’s 2nd annual family biking event. Join us at the North Side Train Station for a fun-filled morning of biking activities!

Participants can also vie for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to a Westfield business by decorating your bike in the Bling Your Bike Contest. Or, compete to win $150 towards an ice cream or pizza party at a local eatery if you are the largest group to register and ride!  We will also give away (8) $20 Downtown Westfield Gift Certificates courtesy of the Downtown Westfield Corporation to some lucky participants.

This year we are featuring a new activity for our more adventurous bikers called the Tour de Tricks, where children nine and older can learn how to jump a curb or see a wheelie demonstration up close. Jay's Cycle will also be on hand to perform safety checks on your bike.
